In this new video tutorial on Cinema 4D, we will see how to get a 2D look from a 3D scene. It’s a fashionable style and widely used in motion design.
If you are looking for a simple and effective way to get this kind of cel-shading render, this tutorial is for you!
We will use the Cellulo shader, which will give us an illustrative solid color rendering. We will tweak its settings to achieve different variants.
We will also see how to hijack the ambient occlusion, to use it in a graphical way.
Personally, this is a technique I love to use, and I hope you enjoy it!
All 3D objects are available in the demo download. The computer is rigged to be able to open and close it easily.
AWESOME! I tried learning this with your french video but some parts were just so hard to understand haha. Thank you for sharing your knowledge! It is very very helpful!
amazing
Thanks a lot for converting this tutorial to English! I watched the French version and picked up a few tips visually, but it's fantastic to follow along in English.
Very nice tutorial! Thank you for sharing!
wow this was AMAZING
I had seen this technique done poorly by an artist but yours looks extraordinary and very faithful to the 2D garphics look
Super clean ! Thanks for sharing

Really great work. Thank so much, dude!
Perfect tutorial - quick, easy, clever - NO wasted time. Thanks!
I couldnt follow. It seems my cinema 4d r15 doesnt have cellulo shader, not even any sketch shader at all. can you help me with that?
Hello Joao, I should have precised it sooner, you need to have the Visualize or Studio edition of Cinema 4D in order to have the Sketch shaders. More infos on the difference between each versions http://mattrunks.tv/c4d-versions
Awesome! Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
thanks !!!good!
Brilliant tutorial. Just one question - I want to map an image onto the paper. I tried to do this using the laptop screen texture, but that doesn't seem to accept the shadows. How would I need to go about this?
Many thanks.
I know this is super old comment... but if anyone is wondering how to do this, you would add a layer shader in the luminance texture, add what ever image you want, then set it to multiply.
Cheers again, Mattrunks. Your tutorials are second to none. Interesting, creative, very well edited and enjoyable.
Keep up the great work, buddy.
Mark
