Today I’d like to introduce another major studio, this time from Amsterdam: Valkieser. They handled the post-production for this Snickers spot:

Now isn’t that a great little street brawl?
Once again, we can see that “motion capture” totally rocks — and when 3D tracking is done right, it’s beautiful!

Ever since I read the storyboard I knew this would be the ideal opportunity to use motion capture. A technique that can accurately record the movement and behavior of actors, and store it in a digital format so the 3D department can use it to animate their characters. [...] We used stand-alone motion trackers specially developed for this project, made from small LED lights that lasted for over two weeks! [...] We did the whole post in HD (1920x1080) to get the best possible results in motion tracking and compositing.

I’d love to be able to suggest using “motion capture” to my boss every time I read a storyboard, but I think I’ll wait until I actually start learning 3D at ESMA before worrying about which technique to use…

Turns out, repurposing those little road sign figures wasn’t such an original idea after all ^^
