Gkaster, a French motion design studio composed of Pierre Magnol and Pierre Fabre, has just updated its demo reel for the beginning of 2009. And it’s safe to say these gentlemen truly know their craft. Here, goodbye to the over-saturated electronic beats that usually dominate showreels — this time, it’s all about melody, for two minutes of visual poetry:

"The combination of our skills and portfolios has given birth to a new website and a broader range of services such as training and the creation of an exhibition space dedicated to digital culture. Our spearhead is creation in the broadest sense. It applies equally to print, web, video, and motion design."

When I watch this kind of edit frame by frame, I realize how every little detail matters in animation — and that’s what makes all the difference. And when it comes to attention to detail, Gkaster clearly excels, as the images below prove:

Add small particles to create atmosphere, never leave a plain background but play with gradients and light variations, create reflections, switch camera angles often within the same scene...

All these small ingredients together make your motion design truly shine in the end. So, no more laziness — add more layers without counting, and create ;)
