Stardust Showreel 2009

I introduced you to Stardust when their 08 showreel came out, and now it’s time to talk again about this superb studio, with the release of a new demo reel:

Once again, some very beautiful work in this new showreel; however, I was a bit disappointed by the music choice... Last year’s Big Audio Dynamite was much fresher in my opinion. But anyway, the images are stunning — even with the sound off ;)

  • The Blackberry spot follows the same trend as HP & co ads, featuring an actor interacting with a virtual world. It may be a familiar concept, but I still love this kind of production :) And it’s actually quite close to the human/machine interfaces we’ll probably see in the coming years... Even though for now, it still takes more imagination and 3D post-production than actual technology to create such videos ^^
  • There’s a whole series of commercials for JPower, all with that symmetrical, psychedelic atmosphere — almost hypnotic... Welcome to Japan! (or maybe China? ^^)
  • Shell also fell in love with a trendy effect these days — ink!
  • The music video for The Futurhead reminds me a bit of Apple’s Party Color spot, and I love the universe it creates: geometric, colorful, and messy :)

Stardust is one of my favorite studios, and I really love their style, masterfully mixing live footage and motion graphics — always with class!
