I had already introduced Stardust when they released their 2008 showreel, and now it’s time to talk again about this superb studio, with the release of a new demo reel alongside a brand new website.

Once again, this new showreel features some stunning work. However, I was a bit disappointed by the music choice… Last year’s Big Audio Dynamite track was much fresher to my taste. But still — the images are gorgeous, even with the sound off ;)

  • The Blackberry spot follows in the footsteps of the HP & co commercials, with an actor filmed interacting with a virtual world. It may be a familiar concept, but I still love this kind of production :) Plus, it’s quite close to the kind of human-machine interfaces we’ll probably be seeing in the future... Even if for now, it takes more imagination and 3D post-production than technology to make this kind of video ^^ (And in that game, the guys from OOOii are total pros ;)
  • There’s a whole series of ads for JPower, all with that symmetrical, psychedelic, almost hypnotic vibe... Welcome to Japan! (or maybe China? ^^)
  • Shell also fell in love with a trendy effect right now — ink effects!
  • The video for The Futureheads reminds me a bit of Apple’s Party Color spot, and I really like its atmosphere: geometric, colorful, and messy :)

With the update of their site (that black and pink palette looks great — nice taste, guys :p), I recommend checking out all their new projects, as well as the older ones!
Stardust is definitely one of my favorite studios, and I truly love their style, blending live footage and motion graphics perfectly — always with class!
